‘White Nanny Black Child’ wins the Specialist Factual Category at the 2024 BAFTA Television Awards! Congratulations to Editors Zeb Achonu BFE and Ross Leppard.
‘White Nanny Black Child’ team is a Doc Hearts and a Tigerlilly co-production. Director Andy Mundy-Castle, Exec Producer Shanida Scotland, Natasha Dack and Rochelle Newman of Tigerlily Productions.
The documentary invites 9 adults who grew up as children of Black Nigerian immigrants fostered by white British families to a workshop to discuss the impact of being one of the 70,000 West African children who shared the same experience. Each take turns delving into their past, detailing the confusion of dealing with such a change at a young age and discussing their personal view on identity, belonging, and the nature of family.
